Pursuant to section 71(1)(b) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), the Minister of Environment requires that, under certain circumstances, the production, import or use of 850 species listed in Schedule 1 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act Chemicals or mixtures, products or articles containing these chemicals must be declared before January 17, 2024.Notification objects include: within the calendar year 2022, the production, import or use of substances listed in Annex 1, or mixtures, products and articles with a tonnage of more than 100 kilograms or 1000 kilograms with a substance content of ≥0.1%.
These items include but are not limited to:
Products for children under 14 years old;
Intentional contact with individual mucous membranes (except eyes);
Intentional release that may result in inhalation or dermal exposure to individuals;
Cookware and tableware that come into direct contact with hot food and hot drinks;
Food packaging materials, including disposable bowls, plates, cups and other utensils, as well as cans and lid liners that come into direct contact with food or beverages;
clothing or shoes;
bedding, sleeping bag or towels;
Furniture, mattresses, cushions or pillows for domestic use containing substances in foam, leather or textile fibres, yarns or fabrics;
Carpet, vinyl or laminate flooring, or foam pad flooring for family homes.
